On Sunday May 2nd Stuart and Tim successfully completed their attempt to canoe the entire length of the non tidal Thames. At 5:30, just 30 minutes behind schedule, they arrived at Teddington Lock.
After six days, 136 miles, 43 locks and some very variable weather they finally made it to Teddington.
£6,275 raised for Chase Children's Hospice.
A really big THANK YOU to all who contributed in any way!
For some reason that only they know, Tim and Stuart have decided that they should travel the length of the non-tidal Thames in a single trip from Cricklade to Teddington lock - a mere 135 miles.
As to be expected, this idea was arrived at whilst in the pub. It sounded like a good idea at the time and after making a public announcement to that effect it was rather hard to back out.
Several options were explored; rowing, swimming, pedalo..... After much discussion it was finally decided that the best option would be an open canoe. This had several advantages as we could carry all the equipment we needed for camping, they are readily availalble, if necessary we could carry it and they can be transported on a roof-rack. The main disadvantage is that although we have both done some rowing before, I had only been in a canoe once when I was eight. So, paddling one for 30 miles a day was going to prove a challenge.

The CHASE Children's hospice provides vital care for children and their families. We are aiming to raise enough money to fund them for a single day. This is a very ambitious target and we will need all the help we can get!
